Doom and Gloom, or Your Time to Shine?

As a very wise man said to me once (last night), “Crises like these aren’t accidents. Nor are successes. They’re created.”

newyear

Businesses are closing doors. Belts are tightening. People are worried.

“Gee, thanks for the happy new year wishes, Charlie. Way to start that one off.”

Okay, wait. It gets better!

Maybe times are tough. And maybe they really are way outside our control, as some might suggest. It’s quite possible that we are all completely and utterly screwed.

But the problem with that mentality, aside from possibly being a big fat lie, is that it isn’t going to do a single thing for you. True or not.

Welcome to Ignite Living, 2009 Version

happy_peeps

As you can see, Ignite Living has thrown off its shackles of yesteryear and been granted new life. The site wanted new clothes for Christmas and new clothes it got, albeit a little bit early.

Over the past year or so, I’ve come to despise visual clutter. The old Ignite Living had icons everywhere, stripes of color, doodads and widgets and little chocolate bunnies. It was, to be frank, awful.

It was also mostly blue and black. And for a site called Ignite Living that doesn’t make any sense. Anyone who has seen fire or actually been on fire knows that fire is reddish. So blue is out, red is in. Cohesion.

Particulars of the site for those who care:

Most fonts are Helvetica Neue, my second favorite sans-serif font. So why didn’t I use Gill Sans which is my favorite? Because Gill Sans loves donuts and pizza and is far too fat for this minimalistic site, which has obviously been subsisting on Top Ramen and running marathons.

But don’t let that fool you, this site is still strong. Look at the sidebar and you’ll see some pretty beefy tabbed navigation, brought to you by Javascripting. For those who don’t know Javascripting from a lettuce patch, that just means this site can benchpress about 640. To keep the metaphor alive.

How to Choose Advertising for Your Site, Part 7: Advertise Yourself

How to Choose Advertising for Your Site

So far, this whole series has concentrated on advertising the wares and services of other people. With all that covered, there’s no reason we can’t now change tactics and be absolutely and totally selfish.

This following info is perfect for anyone wanting to bring more of their skills and passions into play and make some profit off them. It’s also great for any jack-of-all-trades folks who are multi-talented and an absolute necessity for anyone with more than one website. You’ll see…you’ll dig this.

How to Choose Advertising for Your Site, Part 6: Don’t Settle For Average

How to Choose Advertising for Your Site

What’s the last ad you remember seeing on the internet? Was it amazing? Did it stick in your mind or just sort of…vaporize into nothing? I’m almost willing to bet you can’t think of an ad that really set itself apart.

This is ad-blindness and it’s a well known phenomena. That’s why Super Bowl ads and car commercials are getting more and more expensive to produce. The average ads just don’t work because they’re not really being seen. Perhaps the same thing is happening with the ads on your site?

How to Choose Advertising for Your Site, Part 5: Double Your Ad Income With Upsells

How to Choose Advertising for Your Site

If the previous 5 parts of this series haven’t you made you some money, there’s something wrong. And if this one doesn’t make you even more money, it’s time to check right in to a funny farm. This is the simplest way to make money I know of. Far easier than stealing from a baby, without the guilt and feeling like a loser. Not that I’d know.
